F. divisa and F. paradivisa appear in older references under Euphyllia. “Frogspawn” alone does not establish which species is present.

The clustered, divided tentacle ends give frogspawn its name. Skeleton shape matters when separating wall and branching forms.

How to recognise it
Inspect an extended polyp for multiple rounded tips on each divided tentacle. A top-down photo of closed polyps often hides the feature you need.

- Hammer Coral
- Flatter crescent or anchor ends. Intermediate-looking trade specimens may remain uncertain.
- Torch Coral
- Usually one rounded tip on each long tentacle.
In the tank
Placement & flow
Leave space for the expanded colony and use indirect current. Introduce stronger light gradually rather than moving a new specimen straight beneath the fixture.
Feeding
Relies largely on photosynthesis, but can take small coral foods. Feed lightly and watch whether food is actually retained.
Space & neighbours
Sweeper tentacles can reach beyond the normal daytime outline. Keep away from torches and reassess spacing as the colony expands.
What to watch for
Watch for tissue pulling back from the skeleton, persistent closure and brown tissue breakdown. Check stability and contact with neighbouring corals.
